FoSL works to maintain, improve and promote Singleton Lake and the intermediate area. It represents local residents and liaises with Kent County Council, Ashford Borough Council, Great Chart with Singleton Parish Council, Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership, Environment Agency, Ashford Angling and Kent Police.
Why was it formed?
There were concerns over the ownership, maintenance and conduct in the area. In response ABC created a management plan and, as part of this, Great Chart with Singleton Parish Council agreed to oversee the formation of a community group to create community cohesion and to participate in
enhancing this valuable open space.
Visitors will have noticed the boardwalk, which had outlived its utility, has been replaced by a raised path. FoSL has been consulted by ABC and GCwSPC in this project. In places, access can still be difficult in winter months.
What can you do?
As an informal group, FoSL does not seek to build a membership list (due to data protection blah, blah). However, it aims to represent the wide range of residents. FOSL would like to invite further committee members to sustain the group. Meetings are quarterly in the evening with an AGM and attendance at the Meeting of Electors held each May. In addition, the group has participated in community events such as bulb planting, bird observation and litter-picking.
